Our holiday gift to you: API examples

Some of our early adopters have been asking for help programming to the Outside.in API, especially with regard to authentication, so we've created some examples using Ruby, Java, JavaScript, C#, Python, and even an iPhone application to find stories for any location—check them out at GitHub!

We tried to minimize the number of outside dependencies needed to build and run these examples. Some languages' standard libraries provided all the functionality required to make signed HTTP GET requests and parse JSON responses. Where this wasn't the case, we either bundled the dependencies with the example code or provided scripts to help you download and install the dependencies.

We also tried to implement each example using the same basic design to provide a basis for comparison across languages. In some cases there may be more idiomatic approaches, and in the case of the iPhone application, we took a number of shortcuts with the user interface since that wasn't the main focus of the example. We'd be happy to discuss any feedback you have in the forums, and we welcome patches submitted via GitHub pull requests.
