Patch News API Developer Blog
Some people like confetti, but we prefer to ring in the new year with awesome new API features:
Get Stories Around Any Lat/Lng
Use our new Nearby method to query our Stories Query Resource with any latitude and longitude in the U.S. You'll get the most recent stories that we've attached to a place within 1,000 feet of that point.
You can even adjust the radius within which you receive stories between 500 and 26,400 feet.
See Location Metadata for Every Story
You can now request location metadata in any query to the Stories Query Resource. Every story in your results will include a list of all locations we've attached to that story and relevant geographic data points (like centroid or lat/lng and type of location) for each.
Places Only, Please!
Making a map with our stories? You probably don't want to see stories we've attached to a ZIP code or neighborhood. You can limit your results to stories attached only to places (like landmarks or businesses) with our new Places Only parameter.
If you need more stories than you got in your first query, you're in luck. All requests to our Stories Query Resource can be paginated using the new Page Number parameter.
Cross-Origin Resource Sharing Support
The Outside.in API now accepts requests from any origin thanks to Cross-Origin Resource Sharing.
See Taxonomy Metadata for Every Story
Want to organize the stories you got from our API? Every story in your results from the Stories Query Resource now includes (by default) a list of all Verticals, Formats, and Author Types attached to the feed or feeds from which we found the story.
